My daughter and I love this place!! Art for the grown ups plus a place for the kids that is all hands on. Outside is beautiful and you can feed ducks and geese. Awesome place for a picnic on the lawn!!
Our museum is outstanding! It features art from well known artists from many time periods all over the world. The Blount collection has some of my favorite pieces. There are works by John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper, and Stuart Davis. The Weil Collection even has Rembrandt works. There are also many primitive works. The children's area is engaging for all ages. And the food at their cafe is excellent! There are many events each season to coincide with the new exhibitions as well.
My daughter and granddaughter and I visited the museum. My granddaughter was walking without holding her mother's hand and the security guard stated to my daughter (in a very hostile manner) that my granddaughter can not walk around on her own without being restrained. We said we understood, and corrected the concern by having her hold onto the stroller and walk next to it. The guard then proceeded to stalk us glaringly hostile from room to room. While she was following us around hate glaring us down, a large group of teenagers were jumping against the walls and handling the art. At this point this guard was so unwelcoming it made us so very uncomfortable, so my daughter said she was going to the kids room so I could finish looking around. While I was looking around, I spoke to another guard about the issue with this guard following us around as if we did something criminal, and she said she'd speak to her. She was very professional, nice, and understanding. I thanked her and walked on. As I was leaving I walked past the aggressive guard and the nice guard who were conversing together. The one with the bad attitude suddenly looks over at me and blurted out "look at how she is looking at me!" while pointing at me. I ended up having to dress this woman down after a heated verbal altercation where she claimed she was doing her job by harassing us and making us feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome. I will never set foot in this museum again unless this is properly addressed, nor will I change my review of the place until that happens. I love art. I enjoy viewing art. Even visiting the Louvre and inadvertently stepping too close to a rare painting I've never been treated so badly by a guard. I wish I could comment about the art collection because it was all lost in this awful experience.
I went yesterday with my mother and my child. We were followed by a security guard a yard or two away the entire time. She was constantly giving us dirty looks and making my family very uncomfortable while we walked through, usually standing in the exact direction we were going. Her never ending glare at my family prevented her from noticing a group of teenagers touching the paintings right in front of us, so another security guard had to pick up her slack. After her incessant following that same security guard decided it would be appropriate to make comments about my family to another guard. We were respectful of the art, the rules, and the other patrons and have no clue why this guard, "Willow Flannen" (the name they gave us), chose to harass my family the entire time.
Nice museum, it's free and they have a donation container. They don't have cameras in the parking lot area and my vehicle was broken into. Glass broken, a bag taken but no one was hurt. Be careful as to what you leave seen.
